These hand made vertical carved rocks were stained with a water based black dye. The dye was diluted to lessen the impact of the black and increase the translucency (actual word spelled correctly). I’m probably going to add some rusty oxide to the rock- just to imitate the natural look found in the stone we are using in the landscape in the yard. The top was also dyed with the same material- still on the fence as to whether or not to seal the top. Not lovin the shiny and black idea……. it’s not south beach ya know……
At least it’s not brown….. a close source has informed me that black is the new black…. haha!….

Some cool clients we’ve done work for over the years asked us to come up with an interesting yard sign for them. They found a stunning piece of granite they loved and wanted to fit it into the use of a yard sign. Never one to be traditional…..the signage will be made out of red dragon granite and have their house number blasted into it. Obviously it will fill the hole in the middle of the sign- duhhh
. Any ways, the sign incorporates some interesting carved vertical rock- that has yet to be stained, it features a concrete top, and 2-12×12 timbers on the end which are bolted on and strapped with a steel banding as well
This sign can be found on one of the most historic scenic roads in St Andrews. Check it out once it drops in the next couple weeks
Note: ITS NOT DONE YET!!!!!

burrowing owl and prairie dog exhibit to receive specialized concrete wall covering in preparation for custom mural work. That’s all we can tell you for the moment. Actually, we probably told you way more than we were supposed to. We would appreciate it if you deleted this from your history and act surprised when anyone mentions anything to you. Sorry Bill, my bad.

These are the last of the photo’s from our Chicago adventure. We did some finishing behind the wicked arched oak door, and worked on some corner details. Check out the cool barn boards used as the back drop for the wine racks and insets for the archways. Nice stuff.
We may not get the opportunity to work on a lot of 10 million dollar homes here, but we sure do like to get some good ideas from the ones we do get to work on

So Jeramy and I went to Chicago, if you haven’t heard….. Here we worked with Nathan Giffan of Creative Rock Forming, whom I took a seminar from this past summer. Any who…. We wanted to bone up on some techniques and hooked up with Nathan on a cool Wine Cellar project he was just wrapping up. We made the quick 14 hour drive and worked on carved rock features for 2 days with him. Check out this summer home: over 6000 square feet, vaulted ceilings, massive master bedroom (check out that tub and en suite!!) Yeah, you don’t get to help out on these very often.
Coolest item seen? Hidden drawers in the rock
wall. check it out!
