Oaks upgrade!

Sweet job to start the outdoor season for some awesome peeps!  We did a grind and stain on the front steps, then tuned up the landscaping a bit along the drive with some tree inserts and a killer boulder wall. #somuchfun

rock deck

This decking material is made from 3″x12″ douglas fir.  We figured because it’s such a massive structure it would be cool to incorporate some rock work instead of the typical handrails.  So we added that in, and some benches for good measure.  Now, just some colour and we’re good to go…..

How to Rock the front of a Home

On a recent trip to Whistler BC I couldn’t help but notice how awesome the chalets looked with their fantastic rock work and substantial timbers.  I had a project coming up, and took special note of the things that made me smile the most.  Here’s a few of them below- oh, the only difference is that I couldn’t find rock big enough here, so I choose to make it myself.  Enjoy….

Oh, we did this work in early December when it was – 25c outside.  Just because there was nothing better to do- and this was a lot of fun…. :0)

Pool pour/landscape

Finished project pictures always look great, but don’t really tell the story of how we got there.  This pool and landscape project was designed start to finish and had several adjustments along the way because of the pool height and the relationship to the yard.  We needed to haul in tons of gravel for the pool base, and left all the pool excavation dirt on site to create the mounds and backfill.  Rocks are always a great touch to provide interesting elevation changes and create different site lines.  Although these pictures don’t show green grass, killer trees, and great finished concrete- they do show fantastic prep pictures.  I’m proud of these pictures because to me it shows what was needed to get to where we are, and that this project is ready for concrete- and prepared very well.

Backyard wonderland!

Days before they got married in July, we finished this acreage landscape.  The patio/firepit is ground and sealed and the raised patio/wall was poured using Fox Blocks ICF system.  Once poured, we wire lathed the wall and installed an old world antiqued plaster finish.  An outdoor kitchen and bar is yet to be installed, but the finished results are spectacular!

Ahhhhhh Waterloo……

There’s some crazy people that live on Waterloo, but there’s some real nice people that live on Waterloo.  We happened to work for these people- which are one of the nicest people we’ve worked for- and we work for superfantastic people!  After living on borrowed sidewalk slabs and ankle turning blocks- we said enough is enough and created this unique classic cobblestone pathway with a bit of landscape flair.  She pretends like she’s all fast on her bike in a big race and stuff while she rides to the front and back…… it’s ok, still great people.

You can see how we mapped out the project first with marking paint.  Quite a departure!  Really happy how everything fits in with the upgrade they did on their home!

Christie Road

Still love this job from fall 2011.  We designed and installed all the concrete and landscaping here

Cool Pool with vertical rock work

We designed this yard start to finish with NO GRASS at all.  Finally finished, the wood beams are now painted, and light boxes are also in place.

classic rock and pool deck

This yard had huge slope and required some quick thinking and good planning.  Using boulders is and always will be an awesome way to handle elevation changes.  Notice the different colours of release we used to create a more natural look and blend with the boulders?  We also used Fox icf blocks to create an old school plaster wall under the wood deck

River Heights Sidewalk action!

here’s some great before and after sidewalk shots- notice the sweet new planters and wicked cool cobblestone pattern?
