Couldn’t help myself and asked the cool folks over at WRE if I could do some vertical stained samples on their interior precast wall slabs.  Diggin this!

Safe kids playground ‘lake’ and bridge

This took a ton of head scratching but we got some impressive results with wood plank stamps, embedding stone, and being creative with stains.  Check it out!!

here’s a little massive exposed agg driveway action- start to finish!

ok, I lied.  There are no pictures of the driveway sealed- and we have to finish off the landscaping as well.  But, it’s still a sweet basic 9000 square foot exposed agg driveway- built for the nicest family of all time.  Oh, and fyi, Olivia takes some sweet pictures!!

Tropical House at the Winnipeg Zoo, here’s a little braggin on my guys….

Seems the good folks over at the Winnipeg Zoo liked our presentation so much, that they offered us a job re doing the rock work and floors inside the Tropical House at the zoo this winter!  You know, you’re only as good as your guys and well….we’re all super pumped about this new project coming up, and I can say the boys knocked it out of the park making sure everything was just so: creating the right setting and samples for our good zoo buddies.  See, we didn’t do anything special, we really wanted them to understand how we roll.  It was a good time and helpful for us to understand who we are and what we do- by explaining it to someone else- and getting them to understand that we are cool with different and interesting.  We are now studying rock formations from certain parts of the world, water flows, rock types and cracks, crevices, weathering, erosion, mud banking…….. man I love my job!

HEY:

Thanks to everyone who called and wished me well during my injury.  Just to update you all a bit, Doc Johnson says no more neck brace- but no head locks either for 3 months.  A full recovery is expected and, yes, I’m very lucky and know it.  Thanks again everyone.  Nice to be back in action.  Laugh out loud, smiley winky face…..

Lets get this year finished off by looking after everyone and doing some super cool work.  Under promise and over deliver stuff.  Yeah, that’s it!

whoa!! just wait till we bust this one out!!!!

Alcatraz!

I recently was asked to help do some work at Alcatraz prison in San Francisco.  Yes, that Alcatraz.  They are in the process of restoring the concrete and need to stain it to match the surrounding areas- so Shellie Rigsby and Clarke Branum trundled off to help Tanya Komas the the cool people from Chico State university in the 4 year concrete program over there.  Here’s some pictures of the island, I’ll post some actual work pictures later!

how to stain manufactured rocks 101:

you know, I’ve never been a fan of manufactured rock.  Probably because the colours are lame and they look fake.  We recently stained some rock for a customer and are pleased with the results.  Have a look see…:

a manufactured rock waterfall stained.  The idea is to use the correct dark stain, and acids to achieve the rust oxide markings in brown tones…. I think.

Here’s a little new Hu’s on First action

With the success of their first bistro at the ball diamond, the newer, larger location at the stadium looked to be too good to be true.  The new location for the Hu’s asian bistro is ellice and king edward.  Here, we ground and detailed, stained and sealed the old floors- into works of art!  Our proudest achievement is the wicked water feature that greets you as you enter the vestibule.  In this space, we were lucky enough to be asked to decorate the space as we saw fit: asian themed benches, planters, and decor.

**the columns in the water feature were done with nothing other than our carved vertical product we discovered this past summer

it was a blast!
