How bout a little LTM action?……
22Apr2009
This past April I had the pleasure of heading to Vancouver Canada with my main man Jeramy Pagura to take in another Colormaker seminar. This was a 3 day Wild Workshop which was (of course) lead by non other than ‘the’ Gary Jones. Here, we learned about new Colormaker products like sprayable Arapido, self leveler Ptera, and use of dyes and stains. What was unique though was the Canadian introduction to Les Trois Matons- the ancient system of italian lime plastering by non other than frenchman BorisMichalik. Trained as a master plasterman, and master painter, Michalik what he learned and created products that are easy to use and are based on systems that are 1000s of years old. You read right.
Lime is the secret to his product. Made to achieve various finishes, “these are natural historic Italian lime plasters. They are made from calcium rich Italian limestone, calcined in wood ovens, slaked and aged underground for several years, and then carefully hand mixed by Les Trois Matons in recipes that are perhaps 1000s of years old. “ That’s right out of the LTM broucheour.
Here’s what else: 100% voc compliant, totally organic- even the colour comes from various historical parts of the earth, mold and mildew resistant, Along with the various plasters, a limewash paint is also offered as well- which is a very economical method for colouring and beautifying interior of exterior of homes.
Watching Boris work was very interesting. He clearly loves his work, and will tell stories of the history and background as he talks about the product in a broken french italian accent. Along with the fact he is 6’8” he is rather ominous- and has the most fantastic expressions and sayings that are intersperced within his explinations. It is all so interesting and the potential is endless. I find my mind wandering to the possibilites of these products- but at the same time I don’t want to respect the history of the product and use it correctly.
I just think it’s cool to crack the lid on a product that is at least 5 years old, add some colour powder that came from somewhere in Africa, Italy, or Brazil and is at least 1000 years old, then mix the 2 and create a finish that some dude was doing in Greece when Jesus was cruising around. Kinda makes you want to do it right…….
yeah…that’s Boris, and Jer and I have matching jump suits on order as well…
…Mr. Cool Concrete Dude, none other than Gary Jones…
This Dude, plain loves his work…and he should….
how Jer likes to roll…..what?….
…he even looks cool smoking…….kinda, sorta…..ok..I’ll work on that one.
Google this guy out, it is wicked cool stuff..We are doing 2 exteriors and one interior with this product, stay tuned concrete fans- more updates on the way……complete with jumpsuits.
